Description	:	Albert Johnson, the first child of Lewis and Anna Johnson was born in Madison County, Indiana, April 27, 1840. At the age of seven years he came with his parents by wagon to Iowa and settled in Warren County near Lothrop residing there till manhood. August 9, 1862, he enlisted in Company E, 34th Iowa Infantry and was mustered out August 15th, 1865 at the close of the war. After his discharge he came back to the old neighborhood and worked as a farm hand the most of the time and remained unmarried through all his life.... Read More	Albert Johnson, the first child of Lewis and Anna Johnson was born in Madison County, Indiana, April 27, 1840. At the age of seven years he came with his parents by wagon to Iowa and settled in Warren County near Lothrop residing there till manhood. August 9, 1862, he enlisted in Company E, 34th Iowa Infantry and was mustered out August 15th, 1865 at the close of the war. After his discharge he came back to the old neighborhood and worked as a farm hand the most of the time and remained unmarried through all his life. When his younger day had past and he began to feel the effects of his army life, he went to the soldier's home remaining there the most of the time till March 1914 when he had a stroke of paralysis and came to the home of his sister, Mrs. Margaret Higins, south of Spring Hill where he remained for nearly three years. Then, because of his mental and physical condition he was taken to Clarinda hospital where he departed this life April 28th, 1917, at the age of seventy-seven years and one day. Born of a Quaker mother, his whole life gave evidence of the strength of law of heredity in his quiet, unassuming, modest ways and all who knew him found beneath his modesty, a man true and honest in all the relations of life. He leaves to mourn his departure two brothers and three sisters. His father, mother and one brother having passed over before him. The living members of his family are: George of Shannon City, Iowa; Franklin of Joplin, Mo.; Mrs. Hannah England of Wick, Iowa; Rachel Loomis of Madrid, Iowa; and Mrs. Margaret Higins of Spring Hill, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Spring Hill M.E. Church May 1, 1917, conducted by Rev. G.W. Lee. The Rev. Harding was the pastor offering the prayer. The interment being at the Webb Cemetery. Soldier rest thy warfare over dream of fighting fields no more. Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking. Morn of toil nor might of working. Because they cannot reach all privately, the relatives of Albert Johnson desire in this public way to express their thankfulness and gratitude to all who by their helpfulness and sympathy gave evidence of the beauty of Christian helpfulness. {Biography contributed by Robert Lytton, gg nephew of Albert Johnson and Phyllis Cleveland, a cousin to Robert's mother, Mrs. Gertrude Lytton.]
