Description	:	Margaret, youngest daughter of Lewis and Anna Johnson, was born May 2, 1852, near Lothrup, Iowa, and departed from this life at her home near Spring Hill, Jan. 13, 1928, age 75 years, 8 months and 11 days. Most of her life was spent in and around Spring Hill. One Dec. 12, 1875, deceased was united in marriage with Joseph C. Higens. To this union were born eight children, three daughters and five sons, two daughters passing away in infancy, her husband also preceding her in death Jan. 28, 1920. After her marriage she lived in Spring Hill until 1895 when the family moved to the farm where she spent the remainder of her life. The children remaining to mourn her demise are: Charlie H., of Martensdale; Sherman, Edd and Clyde, of Spring Hill; Fred of Arcola, Sask., Can., and Edytha E. Vancil, of Ackworth; also two brothers, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. When a young child she united with the Linn Grove M.E. church and was always interested in the work of the church and community and was a cheerful giver. She dearly loved her home life and her greatest enjoyment was in having her children about her, all of them except two being with her in her home on Christmas day. The children of which she gave this life of service show their appreciation by "rising up and called her blessed." In addition to the many relatives there are a host of friends and neighbors who will sadly miss her from their midst. Mrs. Higens not only gave this life of service in her home but also extended it to her neighbors. She was one of those neighbors who makes the world better for her having lived in it. TIRED HANDS "Folded, they lie upon her tranquil breast, My mother's tired hands, their labor done; Knotted and scarred in battles they have won – Worn to the quick by love's unkind behest. "Pulseless they lie, while from the crimson west A flood of glory from the setting sun shines on her face; I hear the deep "Well Done.' "God's angelus that calls her soul to rest, Found is the Holy Grail of knightly quest; Here in her home, where such brave deeds were done, As knight ne'er saw since chivalry begun. "She suffered, toiled and died; God knows the rest; And if Christ's crown shines not above her cross, Then all is almost unmeasurably lost." Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Spring Hill, Jan. 16, 1928, conducted by Rev. R.A. Grigsby, of Nemaha, Iowa, a former pastor.
