First generation American born in Henderson, Minnesota he followed his siblings west to Havre, Montana in 1907 and worked as a bartender in Helena in 1908 and 1909. In 1910 he was working at odd jobs in Jefferson County and in 1918 signed his draft card in Havre. He was described as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair, working as a farmer. Albert Goms, 45, died at 2 p.m. Thursday [Jul 12] at the St. Joseph's hospital, where he was taken for toxemia treatment from his apartment in the Rex hotel July 7. Although but little information was available regarding Goms' early life or relatives up to a late hour Thursday it was understood that he had a sister and two brothers residing in the Havre section, and a sister (sic) in Minneapolis. A resident of Lewistown for around 20 years, Albert Goms worked for a number of years for Dan Kennedy at the old Kennedy café, and for the past three years had been employed at the Montana Tavern. As far as could be learned he had never married. He was a member of the Eagles lodge and the Episcopal church. Lewistown Democrat News, 18 Jul 1945, p. 8 EAGLE RITES MARK BURIAL ALBERT GOMS Members of the Eagles Lodge turned out in a body Tuesday afternoon to conduct special committal rites of the order at the Lewistown city cemetery for Albert Goms, 65-year-old member of the lodge and long time resident of the city who died at the St. Joseph's hospital last Thursday. Officers of the local area presided at the impressive ritualistic services, with lodge members acting as casket bearers and a special escort. A resident of the city for nearly a quarter of a century, Albert Goms came here from Minneapolis and for a number of years was employed by Dan Kennedy at the old Kennedy café. In recent years he had worked as a custodian at the Montana Tavern. Albert Goms was a resident of this city for over 20 years. He came here from Minneapolis and worked for a number of years at the old Kennedy cafe. In recent years and up to the time of his death, he was employed as caretaker at the Montana Tavern. The Eagles lodge organized a full-blown impressive funeral with an expensive casket, a funeral coach, pallbearers, professional services, clothing, chapel, extra cars, singers, newspaper notices, a special escort, and a graveside service. Even as far away as Helena, the death of Albert Goms was publicly announced. A resident of this city for 20 years, he was caretaker in the Montana tavern. Two brothers and two sisters survive. According to his death certificate and the funeral home record, he was buried in the Lewistown Prot. Cemetery, now known as the Lewistown City Cemetery, which is referred to in the obituaries.
