Hoth was the son of John and Louise Duvitz Hoth and was born on a farm near Sumner, Iowa on June 19, 1833. Hoth was the son of John and Louise Duvitz Hoth and was born on a farm near Sumner, Iowa on June 19, 1833. He departed this life at Mercy Hospital, Oelwein, following a sever accident; while at work in the Chicago Great Western yards on November 29, 1939 at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 10 days. Mr. Hoth grew up on the farm and for the major part of his life was a farmer. On March 6, 1906 he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel J. Meikle at Oelwein, Iowa. To this union six children were born. Their home was first made in Oelwein, but after a year they moved to South Dakota. Four years later they returned to Iowa and located on a farm near Westgate. After farming for eleven years they came to Oelwein where Mr. Hoth entered the employ of the Chicago Great Western railway. Something of the faithfulness and high devotion of the man is revealed in the fact that for eleven years he never missed a day at work, through Sundays and holidays, in storm and pleasant weather. Mrs. Hoth passed away in May 12, 1923, and for 16 years, Mr. Hoth has continued to make a home for his family and to carry on his work. He is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Louise Jacoby and William Hoth of Oelwein, Donald of Oran, Ethel of Oelwein, and Leota at school in Upper Iowa University. One son Harold having preceded his father in death within the past two years. He is also survived by four brothers and five sisters; Will Hoth, Mrs. Gus Lauterbach and Mrs. Fred Wilharm of Sumner, Iowa, Charles Hoth of Waverly, John Hoth and Mrs. Bert Burr of Burlington, Washington, Mrs. Will Ladwig of Newport, Washington, Henry Hoth of Maynard,Iowa, and Mrs. John Schrodemier of Waterloo. There also remains grandchildren. Mr. Hoth was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America. He was a careful and thorough workman who held the esteem of all his fellows. His chief interest was his home to which he gave unstinted devotion. He had been a member of the Methodist church most of his life and held a deep religous faith. Funeral services were held at Grace Methodist Church on December 1, 1939 at 2:30 p.m. the pastor, Rev. F.C. Witzigman officating , Mrs. J. H. Elkenberry and Mrs, Ellen Morris sang " When the Roll is Called Up Yonder", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "Sometime We'll Understand", Miss Evelyn Eck organist. Interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
