Mr. Schedtler officiating. ******************************************* Sumner Gazette Thursday March 29, 1917 pg. 4 GOOD MAN HAS PASSED FROM AMONG US ------------------------------------------ (By Our Bank's Reporter) Herman Hoth, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoth, was born April 15th, 1876 at Monona, Iowa and later came with his parents to Fremont Twp., Fayette County. He was united in marriage to Lena Nauholz on the 18th day of February in the year of 1903, and went to farming on the Henry Nauholz farm north of Westgate. His health began to fall and it was necessary for him to undergo operation for appendicitis one year ago. A few months ago he was taken to the hospital again and underwent another operation, this time the ailment proving to be cancer. All that could be done was administered unto him by loving hands but all was in vain. He endured much pain and the end came on Tuesday, March 20, 1917, at his home north of Westgate. He had bought the farm known as the Bruns farm and moved to the same last fall. He was a true Christian and a member of Hope Lutheran Church. His parents and a infant brother preceded him to the better world. His early departure is mourned by sorrowing wife and four children, Oscar, Stella, Alice and Earnest; five sisters, Mrs. Schroedemeier, of Waterloo, Mrs. Gust Lauterbach of Banks, Mrs. Bert Burr of Burlington, Washington, Mrs. Will Ladwig of Newport, Washington, and Mrs. Fred Wilharm of Sumner; and five brothers, Henry, and Albert of Westgate, William of Sumner, and Charley of Bremer and John of Maynard and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at Hope Lutheran Church last Friday afternoon where a large number had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. Interment was made at Hope Cemetery, Rev. Schedtler officiated.
