Description	:	Albert Yager, a Laurel-area farmer, died June 28, 2013, of natural causes. He was 88. Albert was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Sidney, to parents Henry and Molly (Helzer) Yager. He grew up in the Silesia and Laurel areas and attended rural schools. He was a founding director of the First Security Bank of Laurel and served on its board for over 30 years. He was also a 4-H leader, a long-time president of the Whitehorse Ditch Company, and a member of the First Methodist Church of Laurel. Albert never wanted to be anything but a farmer. Albert was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Sidney, to parents Henry and Molly (Helzer) Yager. He grew up in the Silesia and Laurel areas and attended rural schools. He was a founding director of the First Security Bank of Laurel and served on its board for over 30 years. He was also a 4-H leader, a long-time president of the Whitehorse Ditch Company, and a member of the First Methodist Church of Laurel. Albert never wanted to be anything but a farmer. He quit school at age 16 to drive his family's first tractor. Following his service in World War II, Albert started farming on his own south of Laurel. He married Nancy McCrum in 1952 in Billings. In 1962, he and Nancy bought the Whitehorse Bench farm where they lived for the rest of their lives. Following Nancy's death, Albert married Marge Behrens in 1987. Albert was always proud of his sugar beets, Angus cattle, and paint horses. In later years, he enjoyed raising and selling sweet corn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy; his brother, Clarence; and his sisters, Irene Hein, Elsie Marks, and Betty Lix. He is survived by his wife, Marge; his children, Bill (Melissa) Yager, of Billings, Rebecca (Roland) Madany, of Spokane, WA, and Jeff Yager, of Laurel; his grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, and Sarah Yager, Rachel and Matthew Madany, and Molly Yager; his sisters, Dorothy Lyons and Helen Stenerson, of Billings, and Joyce Owen, of Livingston; his brother, Walter Yager of Greybull, WY; and 28 nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 am. Monday, July 8, at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Rockvale Cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel assisted with the arrangements.
