A funeral service was held on Wednesday. Jan. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton. Alberta was born on April 18, 1916, at rural Alton, daughter of James and Kathryn (Arens) Kinney. She was raised in the Alton area and received her education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton, graduating in 1934. She then attended Western Union College in Le Mars, obtaining her teachers certificate, and then taught in the rural school system in the Alton and Remsen area. On June 20, 1944, she married Everild Niehus at Remsen. They made their home near Kingsley, where they farmed. In 1957, they moved to Pipestone, Minn., where they raised their family. Alberta and Everild moved into the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in November of 1996. Everild died on Aug. 28, 2002. Mrs. Niehus was a member of St. Mary' s Catholic Church in Remsen. Surviving are three sons, Wayne, Bill and Dean; a daughter-in-law, Donna; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Magdalen; a brother, Ivo; and a sister-in-law Marian. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Don; four brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Robert and James Kinney, Jr.; and a sister Viola Hansen.
