Services were held October 5 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier with burial at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Mildred Frances Bohnstengel was born March 9, 1924 in Perry Township in rural Traer, the daughter of Albin and Mary Dvorak Hanus. She received her education in Perry # 5 Country School. On August 5, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ervin Louis Bohnstengel at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. Ervin and Mildred worked together farming most of their married life near Clutier. She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband with the farm work, retiring in September of 2000. For the past 3 years she has resided at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where her death came on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the age of 85 years. She loved caring for her family and showed it in many ways especially reading to her grandchildren when they were little, attending all of their school activities, and cooking and baking for them, especially kolaches. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a member and past President of the IC Rosary Society. She also was a member of the KD Lodge, Clutier American Legion Auxiliary where she held many offices including President of the Clutier unit and the Tama County Auxiliary. Mildred enjoyed playing cards and was a member of their neighborhood card club. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kathryn who died at birth on April 6, 1961, and brothers Leo, Mylo and Edward. She is survived by her husband Ervin of Carrington Place in Toledo, IA, two daughters Nancy (Arlo) Cibula of Vining, IA, and Sue (John) Fink of Marshalltown, IA and seven grandchildren; Jennifer (Sam) Hulme of Waverly, IA, Brian Cibula of San Francisco, CA, Matthew (Tina) Cibula of Clutier, IA, Michael Fink of Stewartville, MN, Joseph Fink of Hartford, CT, Kathryn Fink and Patrick Fink both of Marshalltown, IA, three great grandchildren Thomas and Emily Hulme of Waverly and Brayton Cibula of Clutier, IA. , one brother Ervin Hanus of Traer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
