Description	:	Alex Shafer, 70, of southeast of Grant, died early Saturday morning in the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, following a recent operation. He was the son of George and Virginia Shafer and was born in Union County, Iowa, November 1, 1866. He was married February 25, 1892 to Anna Mae Mary, who preceded him in death January 31, 1925. The first two years of their married life were spent in Missouri, after which they returned to Iowa spending the remainder of their lives near Grant. Those surviving Mr. Shafer are his ten children, who are Havey L. and Lloyd E., San Diego, California; Mrs. Charles Ruhl, Mrs. A. J. Bryson, Elver, and Donald of Grant, and Beulah, Velma, Marie, and Max at home. One sister, Mrs. Ada Otis, Afton, Iowa and two brothers, Ira Shafer of San Diego, California and Henry Shafer, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The body was brought here to the Wolfe Funeral Chapel Saturday and left there until Tuesday morning when it was taken to the home near Grant, where it remained until time for the funeral services held the day at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Grant, conducted by the Rev. Frank Moore of Grant and Rev. A. Breeling of Lewis. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery. Harvey Shafer and son Glenn and Lloyd Shafer of San Diego, California arrived here Monday morning and remained until after the funeral services of their father and grandfather.
