Simpkins was born January 03, 1860 at Pella, Iowa and died April 11, 1934 aged 74 years, 3 months and 8 days. He grew to young manhood at Pella, Iowa where he attended school and learned his trade of carpenter and builder and later house painter under his father, a contractor. Later the family moved to Knoxville where Alex practiced his trade. In the year 1890 he came with his parents to Altoona where they established their home in the house now owned by John Kelley. For the last 44 years he has called Altoona his home. He was never married. Of this family his parents, William and Naomi Simpkins, two sis- ters and two brothers have passed to the great beyond and sleep in the Al- toona cemetery. One sister, Mrs. Em- ma Griffith of Valley Junction and one Brother, Wm. R. Simpkins of Long Beach, California together with five nephews and one niece survive him. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, April 13th, from the J. H. Kelley home, conducted by Rev. Jack- son, of the Methodist church after which the body was laid to rest in the Altoona Cemetery.
