| Description | : | Alexander was born in Kildonan on the Peninsula of Kintyre in Argleshire, Scotland, the son of Nathaniel and Margaret (Galbraith) McNair. When he was just four years old, he immigrated with his family to Canada, settling near the Chaleur Bay in the sparsely populated area of northern New Brunswick. Alexander married Catherine Kelso at New Mills in Restigouche County on July 27, 1841.
