Description	:	OBITUARY---ALFRED CARTER Alfred Carter, son of Lemuel and Lucinda Carter, was born at Point Pleasant, Ohio. August 20, 1848, and departed this life April 2, 1926, at his home Witter, South Dakota, at the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months, and 12 days. He came with his parents to the state of Iowa at the age of three years, and in 1865 the family located in Wayne county, near the site of Humeston and lived in said community until 1916, when he moved to South Dakota. August 20, 1848, and departed this life April 2, 1926, at his home Witter, South Dakota, at the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months, and 12 days. He came with his parents to the state of Iowa at the age of three years, and in 1865 the family located in Wayne county, near the site of Humeston and lived in said community until 1916, when he moved to South Dakota. On the 5th day of December, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Speed; to their union were born ten children - two sons and eight daughters; Charles and Pearl having passed away in infancy, those that remain are: Mrs. Lottie Owen, Mrs. Mattie Cox, Mrs. Cora Caldwell, Mrs. Enid Karns, and Mrs. Mae Ruf of South Dakota; and Mrs. Libbie DeWitt of Calhan, Colorado; Mrs. Viola Goudy of Humeston and Alva Carter of Corydon, IA. He was converted about the age of 18, and united with the Christian Church of Humeston, where his membership remained to the time of his death. He has been a faithful believer in the Power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope of the Resurrection of the Just. he leaves to mourn his departure, besides the family named, three sisters, Mrs. Jane Helt, Mrs. Melissa Collins and Mrs. Elizabeth Sinclair of Humeston, Iowa; besides a number of other relatives and friends. The deceased, having received a stroke of paralysis about three years ago, has never been at himself since. In his passing away, the family feels the keen stroke that comes to the bereaved ones. The funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church of Humeston on April 7, by Rev. M.S. Clark of Chariton, and interment made in the Green Bay cemetery; the bereaved family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
