The New Era Humeston IA March 27 1907 Mrs. Lucinda Carter Mrs. Lucinda Carter, one of our oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Melissa Collins last Thursday (March 21st) afternoon about three o'clock after an illness of about two weeks with pneumonia. Miss Lucinda Triplet was born in Guernsey county Ohio June 1 1822 and was married to Lemuel Carter in 1843. They moved to Elkader, Clayton county, Iowa, in 1851, and from there to Wayne county in 1865 where she has lived until death called her home to meet her husband, who, it was the master's will, preceded her to that great undiscovered country beyond the river from whose borne no traveler returns. Mr. & Mrs. Carter were the parents of seven children, five of whom are living. Mrs. Carter was a devout christian and a member of the Christian Church, and her life was one of goodness, kindness and helpfullness toward all who knew her, and her death has caused the deepest sorrow in the hearts of all. Funeral services were held last Sat. afternoon at the Christian church conducted by Rev. Brown. And she was laid to rest in the Green Bay cemetery, southwest of town.
