The following obituary was read at the services: Alva Elmer, son of Alfred and Catherine Carter, was born in Wayne County, Iowa, Jan. 27, 1882 and passed away Oct. 25, 1928 at the age of 46 years, 8 months and 28 days. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth and on the tenth day of February, 1904 was united in marriage with Miss Carrie Anna Wishmeyer. To this union was born one child, a daughter, Velma Mae, who with her mother is left to mourn their loss. Beside the wife and daughter above mentioned, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Carter and seven sisters, namely, Mrs. Cora Caldwell, Mrs. Mae Ruff, Mrs. Mattie Cox, Mrs. Lottie Owens, Mrs. Enid Corns of South Dakota, Mrs. Elizabeth DeMitt of Colorado and Mrs. Viola Gaudy of Illinois. The mother makes her home, most of the time, with her children in South Dakota. Alva Carter, as he was best known, was a hard working, industrious farmer, nothing seemed too hard for him to do to make everything move smoothly that he was interested in. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a kind-hearted neighbor, always ready to assist his neighbors in time of need. In his passing away, the family circle is broken, his place can never be filled and the neighborhood loses a good and cheerful neighbor.
