Description	:	Alfred Sommerfeld NORFOLK - Services for Alfred L. Sommerfeld, 88, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Norfolk Veterans Home with the Rev. Randy Bader officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Home for Funerals. Mr. Sommerfeld died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Faith Regional Health Services. --- Alfred was born on May 18, 1920, at Pierce, the son of Albert and Erna (Krehnke) Sommerfeld. He was baptized on May 30, 1920, and confirmed on June 3, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce. He graduated from Pierce High School. Alfred married Grace I. Brokaw on Oct. 12, 1941, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 9, 1942, until Oct. 18, 1945. He and Grace made their home in Norfolk after serving his country where he started working as a shop foreman for Spangenberg Auto and then went to work as a salesman for Sidles and before retiring, he was working for the Norfolk Public Schools doing maintenance and driving a school bus. He was a member of the VFW Post 1644. Alfred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Grace Sommerfeld; his daughter, Jan and her husband, Joe Griel; his grandson, Jason Griel; granddaughter Lisa and her husband, Bryan Sterns; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Sterns, all of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his parents.
