Wiles, 59-year-old Kansas City Southern employee, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday at the Stilwell hotel, where he had lived for the past year, after a short illness. Born in Cherokee, Sept. 8, 1890, Mr. Wiles went to Pittsburg as a small boy and had lived there most of his life. He had been with the Kansas City Southern for the past 42 years and at the time of his death was chief clerk in the Diesel department of the master carbuilder's office. Mr. Wiles was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, and served as a reader for several years. He was assistant state publications man for the church in Kansas before his death. He also was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks. On May 28, 1911, Mr. Wiles married Lorene Lee Burke of Nashville, Mo. Mr. Wiles had been ill since Thursday but was stricken suddenly Sunday night. A resuscitator was brought to the hotel by the fire department but it failed to revive him. Survivors include the widow, Stilwell hotel; the mother, Mrs. Anna Murphey, 701 1/2 North Broadway; two sons, Alfred B. Wiles, 1002 East Seventh, and Rex L. Wiles of Arkansas City; three daughters, Mrs. William Darraw of Redlands, Calif., Mrs. Mary Ann Mabry of Joplin and Mrs. Gloria Erwin, who has lived in Vienna, Austria, the past three years with her husband, a major in the occupational force, and ten grandchildren. Mrs. G.W. Payne of this city is an aunt. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Smith chapel. Mrs. William Hamilton was the reader. Burial was in the Cherokee cemetery.
