Mr. Wiles was one of the firm of the Wiles Hardware company of this city, and is well known to the people of this community as a thorough businessman, a quiet gentleman who counted his friends by the hundred. When he was suddenly stricken down by a terrible fever which seemed to go to his brain, his physicians said there was little hope for him. Then our people said, "Can it be possible that one so strong and whom we had seen in the store only a day or two before was to be taken away from the family and his host of friends?" and all hope there would be a turn for the better. His brother, T.G. Wiles of Kansas City, was telegraphed for and was soon at his side, and the best physicians and nurses were summoned, but nothing could reach his case and he passed away. He was born in Muscatine county, Iowa, and moved to Kansas when a young man, and taught school and farmed, when several years ago he went into the Wiles Hardware company, where he has since devoted his time to the mercantile business. He was married about four years ago to Miss Annie Leeper of this city, who is left with her child to mourn his loss. He has several brothers and sisters residing here. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church by the pastor, Rev. A. Cullison, the A.O.U.W. having charge of the remains, and under whose direction the funeral services were conducted. He was insured in this order for $2,000. His remains were taken to the Cherokee cemetery where they were buried. Thus we go, one by one, and no man knows who will be next to lay down in death.
