At half past ten o'clock Monday forenoon at the home, No. 1018 Mechanics street, after a lingering illness with consumption, Mrs. Alice Enlows passed away. She had been in declining health for two or three years, but not until the past six months had the death grip of the disease shown itself. She had used every precaution to thwart its course but it gradually gained such a strong hold that the best medical service proved of no avail. Four weeks ago last Saturday she was compelled to take her bed, since which time she has not been able to leave it. The deceased was born in Columbus, Ohio, and was about 41 years of age at her death. She leaves a widowed mother, three sisters and a brother, all living in Columbus, Ohio, to mourn her death. One sister, Miss Ella Edgar, was at her bedside at her death. One sister, Mrs. Charles Harris, returned to her home last Thursday. The deceased was married to Thomas Enlows in Columbus, Ohio, in 1884, and came to Kansas in the following year. They located in this city, where, by his sterling business qualities, Mr. Enlows soon became identified with Emporia's most influential business young men. Five years ago last Thursday, he succumbed to Bright's disease. Since his death Mrs. Enlows has continued her residence in this city. Her niece, Miss Carrie Wilson, has made her home with her for the past nine years. The deceased was a member of the First Congregational church of this city and was a faithful christian worker. She possessed an amiable disposition, was kind and charitable, ever striving to make some on happy. The funeral services were held from her late home Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock conducted by the Rev. F.J. Sauber. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her departed husband in Maplewood cemetery.
