Reason Died on Visit to Colorado Adair County Free Press August 2, 1972 Early Thursday morning Mrs. Alice Speedling Reason of Menlo passed away at the hospital in Greeley, Colo. Mrs. Reason had been visiting her son Robert of Greeley, and took worse and had to be taken to the hospital. She had been in very poor health since the passing of her husband, Harley F. Reason Dec. 6, 1971. Alice Irene was the youngest daughter of Steven and Chloe Campfield Speedling, born March 13, 1900, on a farm east of Canby. She spent all her young life on farms in Adair County attending the rural schools. She met her future husband, Harley F. Reason while living in Adair County and was united in marriage to him at her home in Canby Feb. 13, 1918. Their home was in Adair Co. for some years and to this union were born three children, LeRoy of Menlo, Chloe Eva Leonard of Auburn, Washington, and Robert of Greeley, Colo. They lived on farms also in Guthrie Co. and from their latest farm (forty acres) they decided to retire from farming in 1947 and moved to Menlo where they with their son, Bob, run the produce station. Some years later they retired from that business and the later years of their lives were spent enjoying their home, garden flowers, and things that make a pleasant home. Mrs. Reason was preceded in death by her husband, Harley F. Reason Dec. 6, 1971; her parents, two sisters Mrs. Herbert Reason of Adair and sister, Mrs. Ben (Cornelia) LaHue of DeKalb, Illinois. Those surviving Mrs. Reason are her three children; LeRoy of Menlo, Mrs. Oscar (Chloe Eva) Leonard of Auburn, Washington, and Robert of Greeley, Colo.; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one brother, George Speedling of Casey, two sisters, Mrs. Leona Abbott of Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Gertrude Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 30, at 3 pm. At the Menlo Methodist Church with Rev. Manning officiating. Burial was in the Canby cemetery with pallbearers grandsons Jim Synder, Dwight Reason, Kim Reason, Rudy Reason, Linus Reason and Kevin Leonard.
