Read More	Mrs. Chloe Speedling Adair News November 29, 1929 In the departure from this life of Mrs. Chloe Elizabeth Speedling another of the early pioneers of this county, has left us. She was born in the Minnesota territory the 12th day of August 1859. With her parents, Benjamin and Mary Jane Campfield, she came to Iowa and settled in this county of Adair, in 1861, when she was but two years old. She has lived near Canby most of her life, although she has resided in Greenfield, and for the past nine years in Adair. Her parents were not only active as pioneers in community interests, but being intensely religious, they promoted the early church and were active members of the Methodist Episcopal church. Annually they attended the camp meetings and it was at one of these that Mrs. Speedling met Stephen Edgar Speedling and was married to him at Eureka Center, the 30th day of October 1884. For seventeen years they traveled the road together, then Mr. Speedling left for the "Home over There". Now she faced a hard task, of having to raise and provide also for her family of one boy and five girls. But she did it in a most wonderful way raising all of her children to Man and Womanhood. She passed away in the early morning of Saturday, November 23. She had reached the age of 70 years, three months and eleven days. In early life she was happily converted, united with the Methodist Episcopal church. After she married she united with the Friends church at Canby. While she resided in Greenfield she changed her membership to the Greenfield Methodist Episcopal church and for the last nine years she was a member of that church in Adair. She was a devoted Christian all her life, and especially interested in both Sunday school and Missionary societies. Surely she fought a good fight and now enjoys the crown of eternal life. Her loved ones are one son and four daughters; George, of Casey; Leona Abbott of Creston; Cornelia LaHue of Milford; Gertrude of Casey; and Alice Reason of Menlo, Ia. There are seventeen grandchildren; also three brothers and one sister, who are Henry Campfield of Winterset; Irvin Campfield of Fontanelle; Albert Campfield of Creston and Mrs. William Bolton of Adair, Iowa, besides many friends who unites in paying tribute to her sweet and beautiful life. Services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church of Adair, Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. B. R. Van Dyke, assisted by her former pastor, Rev. Hugh H. Mitchell of Casey. Interment was made in the Canby Cemetery.
