The family will greet friends from 4 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Chapel of Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg where there will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Joyce Brown was born November 10, 1919, the daughter of Peter and Allie (Mulroney) Devlin in Oelwein, Iowa. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On June 19, 1943, Joyce was united in marriage to John J. Brown at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Joyce taught grade school for over twenty years in the Cylinder and Emmetsburg School Districts. She had fond memories of all the students and the lasting relationships she made with them. Joyce was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Bridge Club. She was an excellent cook, and she even had a cooking article featured in the Des Moines Register. Joyce enjoyed playing cards and spending time at her cottage on Fair Oaks Beach, Lake Okoboji. She was very proud of her grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Most of all, Joyce loved to be with her family. On Monday, February 12, 2007, Joyce passed away at her home in Emmetsburg. She is survived by her husband John J. Brown of Emmetsburg; three sons: John and his wife Sue of Emmetsburg, Dave and his wife, Janet of Cedar Rapids and Greg and his wife Becky of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Steve, Scott, Natalie, Christina, David, Allie and Michael Brown; a niece, Ann Kuehl and three nephews: Jim, Scott and Max Norvell.
