The Rev. Eugene Nilsen, pastor, officiated, and burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. Mrs. Thornby died Saturday afternoon at her home in Big Timber. She was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Grosfield Gulch, west of Melville, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Grosfield. In 1917 she moved with her family to Shelly, Minn. She attended school at Lockhart, Minn. and was graduated from Halstead High School in 1928. In the spring of 1928, the family returned to Big Timber. She was employed at the Martin Ranch near Two Dot. She was married to W. O. Thornby March 31, 1933, in Billings. Later they moved from Big Timber to Billings when Thornby started work for the Montana Highway Patrol. From Billings they moved to various cities in Montan and in 1961 they returned to Billings, where they lived until two weeks ago when they moved back to Big Timber. Mrs. Thornby was a member of the Timber Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, W. O. Thornby, Big Timber; a son, William D. Thornby, Great Falls; a brother Byron Grosfield, Big Timber; a sister, Mrs. Leif (Gilma) Anderson, Melville; and two grandchildren, Herbert and Shelly. Pallbearers for the service were Ray Livingston, Lloyd Rein, Wallace McArthur, Kermit Anderson, Louis Branninm, and Harold McLauchlan.
