She went to her eternal rest March 14, 1997, at the Chariton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a stroke she had suffered on February 21, 1997. In her youth Alice gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized in the Belinda Christian Church. After the closing of this church, she adopted the Pleasant Prairie Methodist Church as her church family. She never married OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, March 25, 1997 ASKREN Alice Lucile Askren, daughter of William and Celestine Moon Askren, was born July 17, 1908 near Purdy, Iowa. She went to her eternal rest March 14, 1997, at the Chariton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a stroke she had suffered on February 21, 1997. In her youth Alice gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized in the Belinda Christian Church. After the closing of this church, she adopted the Pleasant Prairie Methodist Church as her church family. She spent her life doing for other. Nieces and nephews were always welcome in her home. Because of failing health, Alice gave up her home six years ago and moved to Chariton. She was very happy in her new home. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers and one nephew. Alice is survived by her sister, Cleta Wiren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 1997, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Pastor Walden Askren officiated. Burial was in the Strong Cemetery. Steve Irving, Harlan Ballard, Leo Ballard, Phillip Storm, Mike Sherrick and Scott Ballard served as bearers.
