Description	:	Maree Carter, daughter of Curtis Harris and Evelyn Elizabeth Drew Teter, was born September 7, 1902 west of Hillsboro and departed this life early the morning of Wednesday, October 8,1986 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 84. She lived all her life in the Hillsboro and Stockport communities. She received her early education in the Hillsboro schools. She lived all her life in the Hillsboro and Stockport communities. She received her early education in the Hillsboro schools. Finished high School in Mt .Pleasant, and graduated from Des Moines University in 1924. She taught school at Polo, Missouri and Prairie Corner country school in Van Buren County. On June 5, 1927 she married Allen Bruce Carter in Fort Madison. He preceded her in death January 26, 1970. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Charles A Teter, of Lawrence, Kansas; tow sisters, Hazel age 5 years, and Irene Perry of Aurora, Colorado; a half-brother, Clarence Teter of California and a half-sister Birdie Shelman of Hillsboro. Surviving are three sons; Robert of An Arbor, Michigan, William of Stockport and Richard of Des Moines; two daughters , Ramona Clark of Stockport and Barbara Carter of San Rafael, California; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carter became a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the Stockport Christian Church. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and the L.L.G. Club of Stockport. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 11, 1986 at 10:30 am in the Stockport Christian Church with Robert Butt, pastor, officiating. Interment in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Memorials were established for her church or the American Cancer Society. Pedrick Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
