She had always lived in Van Buren County and was married to Walker E. McCracken Nov. 19, 1890. To this union, five children were born: Ruth, who passed away at the age of three years; Ward Vale at one year of age; Albert Dean of Keosauqua; Richard Earl, who lives near home; and Ray Stewart, with whom she had spent the last few months of her life, passing... Read More	Obituary (unknown source): Alice May Ward, daughter of Wm. W. and Susannah Leighty Ward was born Jan. 12, 1867. On Saturday, Jan. 12, 1952, she would have celebrated her 85th birthday. She had always lived in Van Buren County and was married to Walker E. McCracken Nov. 19, 1890. To this union, five children were born: Ruth, who passed away at the age of three years; Ward Vale at one year of age; Albert Dean of Keosauqua; Richard Earl, who lives near home; and Ray Stewart, with whom she had spent the last few months of her life, passing away there Monday evening, Jan 7. She was a member of the Stockport Methodist Church. On Nov. 17, 1919, she became a member of Bonaparte Lodge of Eastern Star. She leaves 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, William Dallas, and one sister, Myrta C. Burns. This fine Christian woman will be greatly missed by many people who knew her, was ever faithful in her attendance of church. She was loved and respected by all. She was a true friend, a good neighbor, ever ready to give her services wherever they were needed. "How beautiful to be with God, When life is fading like a dream, And from this mist-encircled shore, We launch upon the unknown stream, No doubts, no fears, no anxious cares, But comforted by staff and rod, In faith brightened hour of death, How beautiful to be with God." Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Bentonsport Methodist Church, in charge of Rev. Milton Worthen of Ft. Madison. Burial was in Bentonsport Cemetery.
