Description	:	"At her home near Bentonsport, Iowa, Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 1900, Mrs. Susanah A. Ward departed this life. Deceased, whose maiden name was Susanah A. Leighty, was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., July 6, 1837. She was converted and united with the Presbyterian church in 1850. On March 4, 1852, she was married to Wm. W. Ward. They moved from Penn. to Iowa and located in this neighborhood in 1855. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom preceded her to the grave, in early life. Ward departed this life. Deceased, whose maiden name was Susanah A. Leighty, was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., July 6, 1837. She was converted and united with the Presbyterian church in 1850. On March 4, 1852, she was married to Wm. W. Ward. They moved from Penn. to Iowa and located in this neighborhood in 1855. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom preceded her to the grave, in early life. The husband, five daughters, two sons and three grandchildren survive her: Sallie, wife of Walter V. Moore of Fairfield; Allie, wife of W.E. McCracken of Stockport; Nettie, wife of S.R. Henry of Vernon. The other four children are yet at the parental home. Albert F., Wm. D., Myrta C., and Lue E. Ward. Mrs. Ward has ever been a devoted wife, loving mother and a pure and upright Christian until she was called from this home to that above, where all is joy and peace. She was a good woman, fond of home and endeavored to make all around her happy. Her sickness was of long duration, but never a word of complaint was uttered by her. The last few months of her sickness there appeared to be no hope of recovery and she patiently awaited the end. Funeral services were held at her late home, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Schofield of Bonaparte. The text used was: "And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." (Rev. 7:14). This same text was used fifty years ago at the deceased sister's funeral and was a favorite verse of the family. The remains were laid away in the Bentonsport cemetery. Those present from abroad were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moore, Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Walker McCracken, Stockport; D.W. Ward and daughter Mrs. Theodore Ott, Eddyville and H.H. Disbrow, Keosauqua. The pall bearers were: J. H. Cresap, Benj. Ketcham, A. McDonald, B.F. Mitchell, Charles Rigler and N.G. Brown."
