Copy of obituary from Ione Valley Echo dated March 20, 1926: Mrs. Alice Clifton passed away at her home in Ione Valley on March 14, 1926. Here she had resided since 1886. On October 17, 1871, Alice Simmons and Joseph Clifton were united in marriage. Her husband preceded her to the grave 16 years ago. She was the mother of seven children whom five are living, as follows: Mrs. Flora Violett of Stockton, Mrs. Edgar Sollars of Los Angeles, Mrs. James Riley of Ione, A. W. Clifton of Sacramento, Arthur Clifton; also nine children and seven great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. F. B. Richardson of Placerville. She was a loving mother, a kind friend to everyone. Her life was filled with many deed of kindness and she had a large circle of friends by whom she will be greatly missed, as she was always ready to extend love to all she came in contact with, and the place she left vacant will not soon be filled. Floral gifts were many and beautiful. A tribute paid to a dear departed one. Christian Science services were held at the house and grave. The funeral was largely attended and with many from all the county and other sections. The Echo joins the friends and the bereaved family in deepest sympathy."
