Hallander, who at the age of 103 was reported to be Hamilton County's oldest resident, died Wednesday at the Stratford Care Center where she had lived since Feb. 11, 1977. Burial is to be at the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hanson-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford and Friday at the church. Miss Hallander was born Oct. 12, 1878, on a farm near Stratford, the daughter of August G. and Carrie Johnson Hallander. When she was very young she moved with her parents and a brother to Omaha and they then moved to Logan, Iowa. She received her education in the Logan and Omaha schools. In later years, she moved to Stratford and made her home with her cousin, Mabel Ferlen, and in 1967 she moved into the home of other cousins, Agnes and Julius Johnson, where she stayed for six years. Since 1973 she had lived at Grand View Care Center in Dayton, Crestview Manor in Webster City and - since it opened in 1977 - the Stratford Care Center. She is survived by eight cousins, Agnes Johnson, Maude Carlson, Everett Bergman and Clifford Johnson, all of Stratford, Lloyd Johnson of Dayton, and Helen Johnson, Delma Spitler and Ruth Nail, all of Webster City. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and a sister who died in infancy.
