OBITUARY 1 Mrs. Aliene Walden Aliene Brackenbury, daughter of Charles and Allie Brackenbury, was born June 13, 1901, at Lamoni, Iowa, and after an illness of nine days passed from this life at the Hurley hospital, Flint, Michigan, Monday, September 12, 1927, age 26 years, 2 months, and 29 days. She had undergone a Caesarian operation some six days before but was pronounced out of danger by her physician on Saturday. Sunday was a happy day with her and all seemed bright and hopeful. Sunday night she was restless and on Monday morning took a sudden and unexpected turn and passed from this life at 12:15 as a result of acute dilation of the heart. During her entire illness she was happy and cheerful and not one word of complaint passed her lips. On her eighth birthday she united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and continued a faithful member until the time of her passing. As evidence of her devotion and faithfulness we are told that she sang her first solo when she was three years old on Children's Day, at Lamoni 1904. When twelve years of age she became a member of the Lamoni choir and continued so until about a year ago. For seven years she directed the music in the Beginner and Primary departments of the Lamoni Sunday School. In June 1918, she graduated from the Lamoni High School and later enrolled as a student at Graceland College, taking the Public School Music Course; following this she continued her study of music at the Northwestern University in Chicago. On the 25th day of May 1925, she was united in marriage to Norman Walter Walden, at Lamoni, Ia. Elder Cornelius Clifford performed the ceremony. For a time they made their home with her mother and later moved to Winterset, Iowa, where they resided for a few months. Following this, they returned to Lamoni. One year ago last July they moved to Flint, Michigan, where they resided until the time of her death. To this union was born a baby boy on Sept. 6, 1927, to whom they gave the name of Richard Norman. During her life time she was noted for her happy and contented disposition and her kindly and helpful attitude. She leaves to mourn her untimely departure, her companion, Norton[sic] Walter Walden, a baby boy, Richard Norman, one sister, Mrs. Cornelius [Helen] Clifford of Flint, Michigan, and three brothers, Wallace A. and Frederick Brackenbury of Omaha, Neb., and Charles Shirley Brackenbury, of Flint, Mich., together with a large number of relatives and a host of friends. All of the immediate relatives except the infant son were present at the funeral. Funeral services were held at the Brick church, Thursday afternoon, September 15, Elder Roy A. Cheville in charge. A Caesarian operation was performed from which Mrs. Walden seemed to be rallying nicely, but a turn for the worse brought death from heart failure nearly a week later. The little son was named Richard Norman. The body of the mother was brought to Lamoni, arriving yesterday morning. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Brick church. Mrs. Walden, nee Aline (sic) Brackenbury, was born and reared in Lamoni where she lived continuously until after her marriage. She moved with her husband to Flint but [unknown] a year ago. She became a member of the church on June 13, 1909, was married May 24, 1924, to Norman Walter Walden, at Lamoni, Iowa. MARRIAGE ARTICLE: Brackenbury-Walden The home of Mrs. Allie [Alice] Brackenbury on North Elm Street was the scene of a very pretty wedding Monday afternoon when her daughter Aliene became the bride of Mr. Walter Walden. As the guests entered, the house was dark with the exception of a nook in the living room where a bank of ferns and cut flowers shone beautifully in a subdued n/light of rose hue. The guests were seated in an adjoining room. The decorating was supervised by Misses Mae Dillon, Lena Wells, and Mrs. H.D. Steckel. Preceding the ceremony a violin, cello, and piano trio was played by Florence Juergens, J.H. Anthony, and Mabel Carlile. After the soft strains had died away, Miss Lena Wells sang "At Dawning". Miss Mabel Carlile presided at the piano, playing Mendelssohn's wedding march as the bridal party took their places in the lighted corner. Mrs. C.M. [Helen] Clifford, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Elder Clifford was officiating minister using the single ring ceremony. Following congratulations, a tray lunch was served by Misses Gertrude White, Delores Gaylord, and Rae Lysinger. The bride wore a gown of powder blue flat crepe with corsage of dahlia tints and ostrich feathers and carried a bouquet of bride's roses and valley lilies surrounded by ostrich feather. The matron of honor was dressed in rose-colored silk and also carried a bouquet of blending shades. Mr. and Mrs. Walden left at once by auto for Minnesota where they would spend a week or ten days on the lakes after which Mrs. Walden will return to Lamoni and Mr. Walden expects to attend summer school at Iowa City. They were accompanied to Leon by five car loads of young people and plenty of rice, placards, and noise. Both of these popular young people are well known and highly respected in Lamoni. The bride has spent her entire life here where she received her education in public school and college. She is a talented musician and a great asset to musical and social circles. The groom has also made his [illegible] profession of [illegible] home in Lamoni for many years, is a graduate of Graceland College and has followed the profession of teaching during the past year. His maternal aunt, Helen Elizabeth Brackenbury Clifford and her husband Cornelius, raised him for the first 18 months of his life. Then he came to Lamoni where he was raised by his paternal grandparents, Elisha Henry and Grace Miriam (Tabbut) Walden.
