He was the seventh child of nine children, Alfred Carl (b Mar 16, 1909), Edwin Martin (b March 12, 1910), Nettie Dora (b July 7, 1912), Violet Luella (b Oct. 21. 1916), Walter Alvin (b Feb. 18, 1918), Junuis (June) Viola (b June 20, 1920), Allan Albert, Percy Grover (b Sept. 5, 1924) and Nina Linda (b Nov. 19, 1929). Allan married Gertrude (Gert) Roll on Apr. 19, 1949 and stayed on the Engel family farm, running it for his mother, until the farm was split up. He then moved a house onto his own land (SW33-12-2-W4M) and farmed until he sold out in 1962 to his nephew, Maurice Divar Engel. Allan and family moved into Irvine and he worked for the Alberta Pacific Grain Company until it was closed down. He then transferred to Monarch, AB and was employed by the same company until 1964. Allan then bought the general store in Monarch, which he operated until there wasn't enough business to keep it open. Allan worked several jobs around Monarch until retiring to Lethbridge, AB in 1999. He was an active member of Christ Trinity Lutheran Church and a volunteer at the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen for many years, as well as more recently, a member of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. He was a genuine, caring, “everyday” person who worked hard and “played” hard. Allan was a terrific handyman who could fix anything and build anything – even after becoming legally blind. He never said “no” to anyone and if something had to be done, he did it. Through his actiions, Allan encouraged his children and grandchildren to do the same. Allan and Gert had five children: Blaine George, Lorna May, Valerie Louise, Teresa (Terri) Joy and Darren Albert. Allan passed away peacfully, age 82, at home with his family at his side on Oct. 21, 2004 and was interred in Mountainview Cemetery, Lethbridge, AB.
