Allen appears on the 1870 census as "Daniel," but he is correctly listed as Allen in 1880. Did his parents change their minds? His birth date and place are more consistent than most of the family. They were living in Racine County for the 1870 census, and an older sister identified that as her birth place, so I feel secure that is where he was born.
