He graduated from Denison High School in 1955. He then served in the U.S. Air Force. On Aug. 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Bliesmann at United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ida Grove, where he worked for United Builders and later for Godbersen-Smith Construction Company. For the past 27 years, he was employed with GOMACO Corporation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed yard work, gardening and visiting with his many friends. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a brother, Leslie (Pat) Schultz of Schleswig, Iowa; two sisters, Phyllis (Ted) Oschner of Florissant, Colo., and Ruth Sherman of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Wayne (Ina Mae) Bliesmann of Schleswig; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Evelyn Greenstreet.
