Darrow at his home southwest of Deering, after acute kidney trouble ending in paralysis and death. Mr. Darrow was a rugged pioneer, a soldier and Christian gentleman, and a New Yorker, getting his start in Chautauqua county, lacking ten days of 79 years. At the age of 22 he enlisted in Company F, Ninth New York cavalry and in September was in Virginia as a soldier. In the second Bull Run battle he was taken prisoner and held on parole until exchanged, and rejoined his regiment, participating in the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Fisher Hill and the others, having veteranized, until his discharge in July, 1865, and then it was to his parents home in Michigan. Two years later he married Elvira Woodin. who with him became pioneers in that year to Newton county, Mo., and then to Montgomery county in September, 1870 and lived in Fawn Creek until his wife's death in the 1890's. In October, 1899 he was united in marriage with Mary E. Bolte who survives him. He had prospered and became a large land owner, but in the new century he embarked in a new business, and his troubles began in the brick business, and when he cleared his losses he was glad to return to the quiet of his old farm home.
