Parker, a resident of Woodbury County for more than seventy years, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 1939, at her home in Anthon at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 20 days. She had been bedfast since December 20, 1938. Death was caused by infirmities of old age. Almira Furgason was born February 26, 1859, in Pennsylvania. She came to Maquoketa, Iowa, at age four years with her parents. The family spent several years in eastern Iowa and then came to Woodbury County, settling near Oto. Deceased was married November 28, 1882, to William Wallace Parker at Correctionville. They farmed in the vicinity of Anthon and Oto for many years. They were blessed with ten children, four of whom preceded their mother in death. While operating the farm in Morgan township now occupied by John Miller, Mr. Parker passed away March 22, 1922. Mrs. Parker made her home in Correctionville and then returned to the Anthon community where she spent the remainder of her life. Since 1933 when her health began to fail, she and her daughter Violet had resided in Anthon. Survivors include three sons, Alvin and Garland of Sioux City, and Murray L. Parker of Anthon; three daughters, Mrs. Peter Smith of Correctionville, Mrs. Maurice Beeson and Miss Violet Parker of Anthon; four brothers, Eugene Furgason of Sioux City, Allen Furgason of Lincoln, Nebraska, Fred Furgason of Forget, Saskatchewan, Canada, and McCleeland Furgason whose whereabouts are unknown; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Wagar of Chamberlain, South Dakota, and Grace, whose address is not known; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in her home with Rev. L.A. Hunsley, pastor of the Anthon Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
