Mr. Parker had been in ill health for two months and was bedfast since November 7th. He had been taken to the hospital a week before when his condition became serious. Yellow jaundice and complications caused his demise at the early age of 42 years, 1 month and 14 days. Born in Wolf Creek Township, November 8, 1890, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Parker, George Raymond Parker received his education in the rural schools of Wolf Creek and Grant townships. He resided in the vicinity of Anthon all his life except for eleven months spent in the service of his country during the World War. Drafted in July 1918, Mr. Parker was sent to France and did not receive his honorable discharge from the United States Army until June 1919. Although he did not see service on the firing line, he would have had the war lasted longer than it did. Returning to the Anthon community after leaving the Army, he resumed the occupation of farming at which he had been engaged before entering the service. On November 5, 1924, he married Mary McDermott in Sioux City, and they made their home on a farm in this vicinity. Surviving Mr. Parker are his widow, Mary Parker, two daughters, Margaret, 7, and Peggy Jane, 5; a son, George, Jr., his mother, Mrs. W.W. Parker, four brothers, Alvin, Garland, Murray and Lloyd, all of Anthon, and three sisters, Mrs. Seba Smith of Correctionville and Mrs. Mabel Beeson and Miss Violet Parker of Anthon. At 2 p.m. Friday funeral services were held in the Anthon M.E. Church, the Rev. Watson Herrold officiating. Mr. Parker was accorded the honor of a military burial, an American Legion bugler sounding taps and a Legion firing squad offering a final salute to the dead at the grave. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Hudgel Funeral Service. Mr. Parker was a quiet, unassuming man who worked untiringly as long as his health permitted. He was conscientious, doing his utmost to give everyone a square deal at all times. His untimely death in the prime of life is a terrific blow to his widow and children, who have the heart-felt sympathy of a host of friends in the loss of a loving husband and father.
