He was operated on about a month ago for general peritonitis and gall stones. Mr Slonecker resided in Edgar for nearly 25 years. Alonzo Slonecker was born on June 29, 1850, at Mt Pleasant, Penn., and passed away on August 3, 1931 at his home in Edgar, Nebr., at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 4 days. At the age of four years he came with his parents to Illinois and resided there until 19 years of age. Then in 1868 they came to Seward Nebr., and settled on a farm three miles west of town. On July 3, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E Everts of York, Nebr. They lived on a farm west of Seward for 25 years. In the spring of 1907 they came to Edgar Nebr., and settled on the farm south west of town where they lived until four years ago when they retired, coming to town to live. To this union were born five children, George A., of Edgar, Nebr.; Velma and Kenneth, who died in infancy; Roy, who passed away at the age of 18 and Madge O. Brooks of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Mr Slonecker was converted while yet a young man and joined the United Brethren church, that had an organized class at a school house west of Seward. Later he transferred to the Methodist church of which he remained a faithful member to the last. He leaves to mourn his going, his devoted wife, one son, George A., and one daughter, Mrs Madge Brooks; two brothers and four sisters, James of Seward, Charles of Hollywood, Calif.; Bell Dewitt of Rattlesnake Butte, Colo; Elizabeth McLain of Oconto, Nebr.; Mrs Ella Slonecker of Seward and Mrs Laura Sampson of Seward; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him. "We know the hand that is guiding Us thru the shadows to the light, And we know that all betiding Us is meted out aright; We know that the thorny path we tread, Is ruled by a golden-line, And we know that the thorny path we tread, The richer the deep design".
