Weidenfeller Had Operated Meat Market Here Nearly Half Century Death came to end the suffering of A. Weidenfeller, one of Akron's best known and most highly esteemed business men and citizens, at his home here just before 10:30 o'clock Monday evening, February 20, 1944. He had been in failing health for several months from heart trouble and complications. He attained the age of 76 years, 8 months and 21 days. Aloysius Weidenfeller was born in Germany, May 30, 1867, and came to the United States at the age of fourteen years. He lived at Dubuque, Iowa, several years, then at Hawarden, and came to Akron in the spring of 1896, buying a meat market here, which he continued to operate up to the time of his death or for nearly forty-eight years. His sons, Anthony and Carl, have been associated with him in the meat and grocery business the past several years. Mr. Weidenfeller was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Katie, several years ago. Left to mourn his departure are four daughters, Mrs. Clarence Garvis, of Jefferson, S. D.; Mrs. Hector Harnois, of Vermillion, Josephine and Clara, at home; two sons, Anthony and Carl, both of Akron, and five grandchildren. They have the sincere sympathy of the community in the loss of a kind and devoted father. Mr. Weidenfeller was a man who attended closely and strictly to business, seldom if ever having taken a vacation during the nearly a half century he had been in business here. He was a man of upright character and strict integrity. A great lover of music and a fine singer, he served faithfully as director of the choir at St. Patrick's Catholic church for many years. Mr. Weidenfeller was the oldest business man on the street in point of continuous service, and he will be greatly missed in the life of the community in which he had filled an important part for nearly fifty years. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this (Thursday) morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church and there was a large attendance of relatives and friends. Rev. Fr. Chas. Ernst officiated, and he was assisted in the services by Rev. Fr. Hurley, Rev. Fr. Casey and Rev. Fr. Roder, all former pastors of St. Patrick's church. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery here. Poster's note: According to her obituary, Mr. Weidenfeller married Jacobena Ittensohn on January 27, 1891 in Seattle, Washington. His name usually shows as Alois. on census records.
