Kathrine Mary Weidenfeller was born at Hawarden, Iowa, January 10, 1896, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Weidenfeller, to Akron when she was about six months of age, and this has since remained the family home. During her girlhood she attended the public and parochial schools of this city, graduated from the 8th grade, and attended high school two years, then she gave up school life to assist her mother in the home. Always the embodiment of cheerfulness and geniality, she radiated perpetual sunshine in the home she loved so dearly, ever happy and never tiring in the performance of some kind and helpful deed or service in the family circle. Few people are naturally endowed with the sweet and gentle personality that Katie possessed, and it is a matter of deep regret on the part of both relatives and many friends that a life such us hers could not have attained to full maturity in its purity and beauty, but her memory will ever remain a cherished heritage in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her so well. Her presence in the home will be sadly missed, where there are left to mourn her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Weidenfeller, four sisters and two brothers — Josephine, Anthony, Annie. Karl, Mary and Clara. One brother died in Hawarden where he was born on August 18, 1892. Katie was a devout member of and for a number of years sang in the choir of the Church of St. Patrick. God, In His wisdom, has recalled The boon her love had given. And though her body slumbers here, Her soul is safe in heaven. We miss you from our home, dear Katie. We miss you from your place; A shadow o'er our life is cast, We miss the sunshine of thy face. We miss thy kind and willing hand. Thy fond and earnest care, Our home is dark without you, Katie, We miss you everywhere. Your gentle voice now is hushed. Your warm, true heart is still. And on thy sweet and innocent brow is resting death's cold chill. Thy hands are crossed upon thy breast, We have, kissed thy loving brow, And In our aching hearts we know We have no Katie now. Farewell, our love, your couch of pain Is changed into a throne. Your few days sorrows well endured Were mercies to you shown. Yet blame, us not, if every year Till death exacts his due, A day we'll keep In sacred grief In memory, dear Katie, of you. Oh! who could tears of fondness then to be our love denied?
