Holbert of Concordia committed suicide near his home in Concordia, because of grief over the death of his wife which occurred two or three years ago. Mr. Holbert was well known in the Bethel community, his wife having been a sister to Mrs. Nell Throckmorton, James Colton, Mrs. Truman Bates and Mrs. Will Grinage. He had farmed near Concordia for years but left the farm some years ago, and for a time had been employed as a janitor in one of the Concordia school buildings. Saturday he sent in his resignation, and on Sunday left a note at his home telling his son and daughter what he was going to do, and where to find his body. He had walked about a mile and a quarter from home, laid down under a large cottonwood tree and shot himself through the heart. He was 64 years of age. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Bethel Church, and burial made there. August 18, 1933 ALTA QUINCY HOLBERT Alta Quincy Holbert was born August 28, 1869 in Ottawa, La Salle County, Illinois. He departed this life July 30, 1933, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 2 days. When twelve years of age he came to Kansas with his parents, locating on a farm in Meredith township. Practically all his life was spent in Cloud county, with the exception of one year at Rawlins County, Kansas. He was married April 15, 1893 to Cynthia Colton, and to this union three children were born, one boy and two girls. There are left to keep his memory sacred, Fred and Maggie Holbert, and Mrs. Lotta Johnson, and four grandchildren, all of Concordia. His wife preceded him two years ago, June 20. Mr. Holbert was a kind husband, loving father; was well known in this community and on account of his gentle manner and loving disposition he held the highest regard of all who knew him. He was always helpful to friends and neighbors in time of need and trouble. When he departed this life he left nothing undone to mar the wonderful moral life he had lived, and he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
