Description	:	Alton "Al" Leonard Siecke of Vermillion ended his 45 year dedication to funeral service on Monday, August 9, 2010, his 76th birthday, after a brief battle with cancer at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Alton was born August 9, 1934 on the family farm to Leonard and Serena (Feldhahn) Siecke in Norfolk, NE. Read More	Alton "Al" Leonard Siecke of Vermillion ended his 45 year dedication to funeral service on Monday, August 9, 2010, his 76th birthday, after a brief battle with cancer at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Alton was born August 9, 1934 on the family farm to Leonard and Serena (Feldhahn) Siecke in Norfolk, NE. He attended and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1953, and also attended Norfolk Junior College following graduation. On December 28, 1956 he married Marilyn J. Heinold. Alton attended California College of Mortuary Science in downtown Los Angeles, CA, and graduated with highest honor in 1963. He and Marilyn moved to Nebraska where Alton worked as a funeral director in several areas, namely Franklin and Omaha, NE where he served as a preceptor for numerous young funeral directors. Alton and Marilyn later relocated to Vermillion, SD where Alton bought Wagner-Iverson Funeral Home in Vermillion in 1981, and Anderson Funeral Home in Elk Point in 2002. For 16 years, he also held the position of Clay county coroner. In addition, he was the district president of Southeast South Dakota Funeral Directors. Alton was a member of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association, as well as Iowa and Nebraska's state Funeral Directors Association. In February 2008, Alton sold both funeral homes in Vermillion and Elk Point to Lori and Tom Kober. Alton continued working and being involved in funeral service until May 2010. Alton still owned, with wife Marilyn and daughter Tamera, the Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, IA. Alton was very involved in the community in Vermillion. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, and he often held numerous positions within his churches. Alton was a worthy patron of the Eastern Star, a member of the Scottish Rite, and active in the Tangier Shrine. He also became a member of the York Rite Masons, Odd Fellows, and the Eagles Club. Alton is survived by his wife Marilyn of Vermillion; daughter Tamera (Mark) Rohde of Kingsley, IA; son Mark (Bev) Siecke of Decatur, NE; grandsons Seth (fiancee Annie) Rohde and Tate Rohde of Kingsley, IA, and Tyler (Becky) Siecke of Omaha, NE; granddaughters Megan Rohde of Dakota Dunes, SD and Tanna (Nick) White of Waterloo, IA; brothers Doug (Phyllis) Siecke of Madison, NE and Leon Siecke of Ceres, CA; sister Judy Collins of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Serena (Feldhahn); daughters Jacqilyn Kay and Sharilyn Sue; brother-in-laws Keith Collins and LaVerne Heinold; paternal grandparents Albert and Martha Feldhahn; and father and mother-in-law Adolph and Laura Heinold. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 5:00-8:00pm at Rohde Funeral home in Kingsley, IA. Visitation will resume on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Vermillion from 4:00-7:00pm with a prayer service. The funeral service will be on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Vermillion with Pastor Elmer "Sandy" Aakre officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:00am at Hillcrest Cemetery in Norfolk, NE with a video tribute and a luncheon to follow at his childhood church, First Christian Church, 1408 East Benjamin Avenue.
