Description	:	Alton Ray Lynch Prior to enlisting in the navy Alton Ray participated in three encampments of the CMTC at Camp Pike (now Camp Robinson). During his third encampment he was appointed corporal and served under the camp commander, Colonel Harry S. Truman, who later became President of the United States. Alton was born in Liberty township May 21, 1916, and attended one room schools in the area and high school at Scotland. Alton was born in Liberty township May 21, 1916, and attended one room schools in the area and high school at Scotland. His duty assignments after that were as follows: Battleship Texas, Gunnery and Fire Control, 1934-1937 Battleship Mississippi, Gunnery and Fire Control, 1937-1943. (During this time he was promoted to Chief Gunners Mate and to Warrant Gunner.) Carrier Coral Sea, Served as Gunner, Ensign, and Lieutenant j.g.), 1943-1945 Naval Ammunition Depot, McAlester, Oklahoma, Assistant Bomb and Mine Production Officer, June to October, 1945 Naval Personnel Separation Center, Norman, Oklahoma, promoted to Lieutenant, 1945-1946 Reina Mercedes Station Ship, Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, 1946-1947. (At the end of this assignment he took terminal leave after which he re-enlisted as a chief gunners mate.) Carrier Kearsage, 1947-1950 Naval Magazine, Guam, 1950-1951 Naval Magazine, Port Chicago, California, 1951-1953. (At the beginning of this assignment, he was reappointed as Warrant Gunner.) Battleship Wisconsin, Ordnance Gunner, 1953-1955 Lake Mead Base, Las Vegas, Nevada, 1955-1956 Retired as a Chief Gunner, July 1, 1956, with 22 years service. Alton operated a gasoline station and grocery store in Morrilton briefly after retirement and was a supervisor of security guards at missile sites while silos were being constructed in the 1960's in White, Faulkner, and Conway Counties. He was married to Paula Boyle Medlock and Sybil White Bettinger.
