Laska, A.J. Pendergast, Jim C. Hupp, Sigmund Armbruster and George Dittrick. Pallbearers were Leland Carson, Eugene Stortvedt and Edmund Prenger Sr., all of Norfolk; Edward Stevens of Hartington; T.L. Grady and D.E. Eberly of Stanton. Alva A. O'Brien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert O'Brien, was born Aug. 22, 1912 at Akron, Colo. He died Nov. 29, 1968 of an apparent heart attack at his gravel pit near Stanton. On Nov. 9, 1935 he married Lucy McCarthy at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Tilden. He owned and operated the O'Brien Sand and Gravel Company at Stanton for 22 years and one at Hartington for three years. He had seved on the board of directors of the Associated General Contractors of America for two years and on the board of directors of the Nebraska Sand and Gravel Association for one year. He was a member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Chalice Club; and was a trustee of St. Peter's Catholic Church where he had seved on the building committee for the recently completed church. Survivors include his widow; four daughters, Mrs. James (Mary) Schultz of Hartington, Mrs. Ted (Rita) Van Dieken and Mrs. Gary (Bette) Wolff of Stanton and Maureen at home; one son, Joseph of Norfolk; nine granddaughters; four grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Stanley Corneil of Winfield, Kan., and two brothers, Harold of Pilger and E.W. of Valparaiso, Fla. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe, who died during World War II.
