His professional career was a coast-to-coast truck driver. Survivors include his eight children; sons, Shane and his wife, Andrea of Norfolk, Joe and his wife, Malissa of Norfolk; daughters, Jolene and her husband, Don Groninger of Norfolk, Diane Erickson of Randolph, Lori O'Brien of Norfolk, Jaci O'Brien of Omaha, Jennifer and her husband, Tim Grashorn of Norfolk, and Sarah and her husband, Mike Thayer of Norfolk; 21 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Curtis, Jason, Noelle, Dana, Mitch, Jacob, Emma, Shanel, Kylie, Maddie, Gracie, Cayden, Noah, McKenna, Ben, Connor, Caleb, Cali, Molly and Ryann; and sisters, Maureen O'Brien-Gielser of Omaha, Mary Schultz of Albany, Ohio, Rita Van Dieken of Orlando, Fla., and Bette Wolff of Stanton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Lucy O'Brien. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of Maureen O'Brien-Giesler, 2412 S. 154th Circle, Omaha, 68144-1930. Another memorial service will be held in Omaha at a later date and time JOSEPH O'BRIEN Memorial services for Joseph O'Brien, 68, Stanton, were held Jan. 6 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton with the Rev. Tim Lange officiating. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 3602. Mr. O'Brien died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha. He was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Tilden, the son of Alva and Lucy (McCarthy) O'Brien. He was baptized at Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy for many years. He gradutated from Stanton High School in 1957, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1959, serving in Germany until his discharge in 1961. He married Donna Palacek Aug 22, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. They were later divorced. He was involved in the family business, O'Brien Sand and Gravel for many years, and later was a truck driver, traveling coast to coast. Survivors include his sons and their spouses, Shane and Andrea O'Brien, Joe and Malissa O'Brien, all of Norfolk; daughters and spouses, Jolene and Don Groninger, Lori O'Brien, Jennifer and Tim Grashorn and Sarah and Mike Thayer, all of Norfolk; Diane Erickson of Randolph and Jaci O'Brien of Omaha; 21 grandchildren; sisters, Betty Wolff of Stanton, Mary Schultz of Albany, Ohio, Rita Van Dieken of Orlando, Fla., and Maureen O'Brien Gielser of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the family.
