Wilkins one of nine children was born to Charles and Rebecka Wilkins in Decorah, Winnishiek county, Iowa, Nov. 20, 1865 and departed this life at his home in Clarke Co., Nov. 10, 1948, at the age of 82 years, eleven months and twenty days. His father and mother, three sisters and four brothers preceded him in death several years. He came to Lucas county, Iowa at the tender age of ten years, where he grew to manhood. His entire life was spent in Lucas and Clarke counties. He was a very energetic farmer. He loved the farm life. He also loved to witness for "His Master." Often quoting passages of Scripture from the Holy Bible which he knew quite well. When a young man he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and was ever true to his confession. Always anxious for others to believe in the same Savior who had died for him. He had a great desire to expound the gospel to others. He leaves to mourn his departure one aged sister, Mrs. Loretta Curtis of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his faithful and loyal housekeeper, Miss Nannie Oakson who has stayed by his family for the past 33 years, proving to be very much of a blessing in so many ways, especially in the later years of Alva's life; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. Services were held at Bethel Chapel church, Sat., Nov. 13, at 2:00 p. m. with Reverend Browning officiating and Webster's Service in charge. Burial was in Bethel Chapel cemetery. "Weep not that his toils are over, Weep not that his last race in run, God grant that we may rest as calmly, when our work like his is done. Till then we yield with gladness, our dear one to him" to keep, and rejoice in the sweet, assurance. He giveth his loved one sleep." Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa November 18, 1948, Page 3 The very sudden death of Alva Wilkins was a shock to our community. He died very sudden at his home last Wed. Funeral services were held at Bethel Chapel Sat. afternoon at 2 p. m. Interment in cemetery here. A large crowd of relatives, neighbors and friends attended to pay respects to one who had spent many years in our midst. To his only sister, a Mrs. Curtis of Des Moines, Miss Nana Fogelsong who had spent many years in his home, and to his nieces and nephews we extend our sincere sympathy.
