Daughter of Daniel Hilbert and Rebecca Geyer OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, February 9, 1922 DEATH CALLS AGED PIONEER Rebecca Hilbert, daughter of Daniel and Rebecca Hilbert, was born in Berks County, Penn., December 25, 1828, and died in Clarke County, Iowa, February 1, 1922, her age being 94 years, 1 month and 7 days. She was married to Charles Wilkins in Wisconsin on February 15, 1852. To them were born nine children, three of whom have passed on before. The living are Erastus Charles, of Des Moines; Mrs. M. Bailey and Carlos, of Long Beach, California; Frank and Mrs. Loretta Curtis, of Chariton; and Alvah H., of Clarke County. There are also 29 grandchildren and 51 great grand children. Part of her years of young womanhood were spent in Canton, Ohio, not far from the home of President Wm. McKinley. They moved from Wisconsin to Winneshiek County, Iowa, in the spring of 1860, and came to Lucas County in 1876. She and her husband were converted to Christ soon after their removal to Lucas County. They became members of the United Brethren church and lived and died in the faith of the gospel. Her husband preceded her in death May 27, 1892, almost thirty years ago. They had walked side by side in married life for over forty years. The closing experiences of her life were marked by happy reconciliation and trust, and like Anna of old, she looked for redemption. Her body lies in sleep, side by side with that of her husband in the Fletcher cemetery and their redemption is secured by Him who liveth and was dead, and is alive forevermore. The funeral services were conducted on Friday, February 3, at the Norwood U. B. church, by Rev. W. D. Gordon, assisted by Rev. J. W. Cronk. The floral offerings by the children and by the Ladies Aid and Womens Missionary society were beautiful.
