Description	:	ALVA ROSCOE SERVICES HELD Alva W. Roscoe was born April 30, 1886, on a farm one mile west of Lyons, and passed away May 2, at the age of 93, in Victoria, Tex., after a brief illness. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. Roscoe. His parents and grandparents were among the earliest homesteaders in Burt County. Read More	ALVA ROSCOE SERVICES HELD Alva W. Roscoe was born April 30, 1886, on a farm one mile west of Lyons, and passed away May 2, at the age of 93, in Victoria, Tex., after a brief illness. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. Roscoe. His parents and grandparents were among the earliest homesteaders in Burt County. As a youth he assisted his parents in farming and briefly on their rice farm in Ganado, Tex. He graduated from Lyons High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Following this, he devoted his life to farming. First, west of Lyons and later in Iowa and South Dakota. He loved the land and strove to leave each farm he owned in better condition than he found it. At vacation times, he liked to travel and often took his mother and nieces on trips around the country. When he could no longer farm, he sought warmer climates, spending some time in Hot Springs, Ark. and later in Ganado, Tex. He stayed a few months in the Logan Valley Manor, but his determination to be independent and self-sufficient took him back to Ganado, Tex. in Aug. of 1978 where he spent the remaining months of his life. Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Irving Roscoe, Lyons and Mrs. Dell Roscoe, Covina, Calif., 9 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. -The Lyons Mirror-Sun, 10 May 1979
