Shumway, Harry Ehninger and Morris Paine, pallbearers. Isabelle Sarah Everett, Daughter of Andrew and Sarah Everett, was born in Alamakee [sic] county, Iowa, September 29, 1854, and departed this life January 16, 1955 at the age of 100 years, three months and 17 days. Death came at the home of her son Irving following three months being bedfast, suffering from old age. The deceased lived in Iowa and Minnesota, before coming to Nebraska with her parents in a covered wagon, to pioneer in Burt county in 1867. The Everett family joined the Benaiah [sic] and Josaih [sic] Everett families, who came a few months previous, settling in what is known as the Logan Valley, homesteading on the farm now occupied by Harold Frese. In her early teens she attended high school in Brooklyn, New York, and attended the University of Nebraska, entering the university in the year it was founded. She later taught school in Lyons and was the first music teach in Lyons. On February 18, 1873, Miss Everett was united in marriage to Benjamin S. Roscoe, who arrived in the Logan Valley about the same time as his bride. The ceremony was held at the home of the bride's parents with a Presbyterian minister officiating. Following their marriage they homesteaded on the Roscoe farm west of Lyons and the deceased spent practically her entire life there. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe spent two years in Texas in 1903-4, but returned to their farm to take up their permanent residence. Following the death of her husband in 1923, Mrs. Roscoe and her son Alva continued to live on the home place. Two years ago she went to the home of her son Irving where she has since resided. Mrs. Roscoe was a great scholar and was keenly interested in world and civic affairs, and nothing pleased her more than to follow the political topics of the day. She was always alert in spite of her advanced years. Five years ago Mrs. Roscoe and her son Alva made a trip to Texas in a trailer to spend the winter and lived in the trailer house. She had traveled extensively during her life, but this trip at the age of 95 was one of her most enjoyable. The deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Lyons, joining in 1879. She was a member of the W. C. T. U. and the Woman's Relief Corps. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe were the parents of four sons, Dell of Covina, California, Frank, Irving and Alva of Lyons. She leaves to mourn her passing besides her four sons, 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
