Read More	Alvin "Bub" Anglin, 87, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his home. On November 22, 1922, Tom and Frances were blessed with their fourth child, Alvin William "Bub" Anglin. Aileen, Jim, and Ethel could not have been more pleased with a brother. Alvin was so happy to have Sel, Lollie, Harley and Tom later joining the family. All of the children had chores daily, but there was always time for a game of baseball. Their teams consisted of Jim, Bub, and Sel against Lee, Cal, and Mel. Bub graduated from Hand County Public grade school in Polo in 1936, and continued on to graduate from Fairview High School in Polo in 1940. After graduating, he worked for his father and various farmers in the area until he joined the Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. He met and married Lucille Wernsmann, the love of his life, May 31, 1949. This union was blessed with eight children: Lois, Eileen, Marion, Barbara, Larry, Janet, JoAnn, and Ed. After they married, Bub still had a great love of baseball. He was a regular on the Polo ball team for many years until the size of his growing family made it impossible for Lucille to watch the children when Bub played. So, baseball playing came to an end except for an occasional game with his children. He was a farmer all of his life. The hard times, like in April of 1976 when their daughter JoAnn passed suddenly, taught Bub and Lucille to appreciate the good times even more. Bub was a member of the Polo School Board for at least 20 years, and he believed everyone should have to serve at least one term on a school board. He was also a very active member of the National Farmers Organization. He was a member of Orient Legion Post #178 1947-1955, then the Polo Legion Post #299 in 1956 where he remained a lifetime member. He joined the Miller VFW in 1976 and remained a lifetime member. He was a member of Polo's Catholic Order of Foresters. As the home nest emptied Bub and Lucille had more time to visit family and friends. If someone they knew was in the hospital, the Anglin's were sure to be one of the first ones to visit. They were always sure to send cards to everyone. Bub and Lucille always made sure to celebrate their anniversary in a special way. On August 5, 2005, Lucille passed away. Bub moved to Miller Plaza. He enjoyed socializing at coffee time daily at Apco. In April of 2007, Bub moved in with his son Larry and family, where he resided until his death. Bub is survived by his children: Lois (Jack) Zens of Rapid City, Eileen (Tom) Wilson of Callaway, Neb., Marion (Dave) Moeller of Redfield, Barbara (Leon) Kolda of Polo, Larry (Leonda) Anglin of Miller, Janet (Brian) Erdman of Omaha, Neb., and Ed (Cheryl) Anglin of Sioux Falls; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Harley Anglin of Miller and Tom (Fran) Anglin of Polo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; daughter, JoAnn; two brothers: Jim and Sel; and three sisters: Aileen, Lollie, and Ethel. Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Bub's arrangements.
