Description	:	Alvin Hoffer, 74, Turtle Lake, ND passed away September 6, 2016 at his residence under the care of hospice. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday September 23, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in McClusky, ND. Read More	Alvin Hoffer, 74, Turtle Lake, ND passed away September 6, 2016 at his residence under the care of hospice. Alvin wished to be cremated with his ashes spread on the family farm and Internment at the McClusky City Cemetery. Alvin was born at home on April 25, 1942 to Louie L and Elsie (Hegel) Hoffer. He was raised on the family farm and graduated the 8th grade at Harris Township County School. Alvin and Helen (Bertsch) were united in holy matrimony on September 5, 1964 and made the Hoffer family farm their home, where they raised their three children. Alvin and Helen farmed and ranched together for 52 years. Retirement wasn't really for Alvin. It was only after being diagnosed with cancer in early 2016 that they left the farm moving to Turtle Lake. Alvin never took a vacation and was most comfortable on the farm. He could often be found on the corner stool in his "shop" especially on Sunday's relaxing while listening to the Polka Party on the radio. His love of old time music grew into a hobby as a drummer with a couple of local bands. Alvin was a self-taught "Jack" of all trades. Many a neighbor would call upon Alvin for his expertise whether it be welding, traveling the countryside with his homemade meat saw or in his younger years, cattle drives with his beloved palomino, Daisy. He passed onto his children many of his talents and interests but none so much as his love of the land. Alvin enjoyed hosting deer hunting parties from his shop whether the hunter be from a far away state or children of a family member. Wild game could always be found in the freezer. Winters you could often find Alvin cozy in his fish house, cooking deer sausage for a snack. Alvin is survived by his wife of 52 years Helen, children Lynette of Mandan, James (Amanda) of McClusky and DJ (Daniel) of Mandan. Nine grandchildren Jill and Benjamin Roth, Nicole Nigrin, Jordan McLaughlin, Easton Frey, Von and Irie Irwin, Wyatt Hoffer, and Jacob Moore. Sister Bernice (Clarence) Flemmer, Sioux Falls SD, a brother Gary Hoffer Bismarck. He is preceded in death by his parents Louie L and Elsie Hoffer and a sister Darla (Roger) Watson.
