Married Samuel Valentine Saunders on 04 JUN 1867 in Monroe County, Missouri. ~~~~~~~ Hunnewell Graphic 25 Mar 1904 In Memorium Mrs. Alwelda Lasley Saunders, was born in Kanawah Co., West Virginia, June, 25th, 1841 and died at her home southwest of Hunnewell, March 20th, 1904, after several months of serious illness, age 62 years, 8 months, 25 days. She was the third child of a family of six children, four of whom are still living, Mrs. Samuel Cox, of Shelbina, and three sisters who reside in West Virginia. She came to this country in the fall of 1865, and was married to Samuel V. Saunders, June 4th 1867. To this happy union were born eight children, six of whom remain with her husband and a little grandson to mourn her departure. She was converted under the ministry of Rev. Thompson Penn in 1878, and united with M. E. church, South, at Deer Creek, of which she was ever a true, consistent member. For twenty-six years she has walked with her Lord on earth, and he has now called her to walk with Him in white forever. She was a happy Christian, cheerful in her home, and pleasant to all who knew her. Her life in the home, in the church, and in the community needs no comment. It is open to all, and that she exemplified the life of her Master is testified to by all her acquaintances. It may truly be said of her, “She hath done what she could.” During her last illness she realized her sickness would be fatal and told Bro. Kincaid, her pastor that all was well with her soul, and it was her desire and request that her family meet her in heaven. So on last Sunday, shortly after the sun had cross the meridian, her soul crossed over the River of death and went up the shining way to be with God and the loved ones gone before. After a short funeral service, conducted by the writer in the absence of her own pastor, her body was laid to rest in the family burying ground, near the home she had made so happy for the past thirty-seven years. She lived well, she died well. We shall see her again in the morning of the resurrection. “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, yea from henceforth saith the Spirit for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them.
